The collection consists of records of the Atlanta Urban League from 1920-1990. The collection contains the records of the Board of Directors (1920-1988), including minutes of the meetings, correspondence, reports, budget information, and other miscellaneous records; and Executive Directors' files (1922-1990) containing correspondence, administrative files, printed materials, and photographs pertaining to League Directors Grace Towns Hamilton, Robert A. Thompson, Harold Arnold, and Lyndon Wade. The papers also contain departmental records (1930-1985) consisting of material relating to the work of departmental staff, including the Community Services Department; the Housing Department; and the Employment Department.

The Atlanta Urban League, an affiliate of the National Urban League, was established in 1920. It is a private, non-profit, interracial community service organization which functions as a vehicle for addressing the social and economic problems of the black community in Atlanta, Georgia.
